Queens of the Stone Age (también conocidos como QOTSA) es una banda estadounidense de rock alternativo y stoner rock originaria de Palm Desert (California). Fue formada en 1997 por Josh Homme, dos años después de la desintegración de Kyuss, su banda anterior, y contó con la participación de sus excompañeros Nick Oliveri y Alfredo Hernández.

«Songs for The Deaf» es su tercer álbum de estudio, lanzado en agosto de 2002 por Interscope Records. El álbum está considerado como conceptual y cuenta con la participación de Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana) y Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees).

Con «Songs for The Deaf», QOTSA logra el éxito definitivo a nivel internacional, consiguiendo el puesto 17 del Billboard 200 de 2002. Tres sencillos fueron extraídos del disco: «No One Knows» (n° 1 en el Modern Rock Tracks de 2002), «Go with the Flow» y «First It Giveth». El disco consiguió el disco de oro en Estados Unidos habiendo vendido 900 000 copias en 2003.
